Overview

About the Project & Business Goal

Maridady Motors, a Nairobi-based leader in Japanese vehicle imports, operates in one of Kenya’s most sophisticated automotive finance ecosystems across 5 distinct lending models. However, this complexity was managed through fragmented manual procedures, such as paper contracts, spreadsheets, & disconnected payment tracking, which limit operational scale & financial visibility. The core business goal was to transform this into a structured & scalable digital system capable of supporting diverse borrower profiles and investment flows. We offered a unified platform enabling streamlined loan origination, credit analysis, BNPL, flexi-pay, SACCO management, and real-time portfolio oversight.

Challenges

Core Engineering & Financial Challenges

Developing a multimodal automotive finance platform that serves Kenya’s diverse borrower base, balancing multiple critical factors, including lending complexity, mobile money data integration, regulatory compliance & realities of informal income across the fragmented financial space.

01 — Multimodal Complexity

5 Models on One Platform

Asset finance, SACCO savings, hire purchase, lay-by, and Flexi-Pay each required unique eligibility rules, repayment logic, collateral handling, and documentation workflows, creating the challenge of managing all five within a single shared backend.

02 — M-Pesa Credit Evidence

Informal Income Verification

Self-employed Kenyans often lack traditional income records. Our platform solves this by turning raw M-Pesa data into structured credit profiles, helping microfinance partners make smarter, faster, data-driven, risk-aware lending decisions.

03 — Investor Lifecycle Tracking

Vehicle Import Management

Tracking investor capital from deposit through Japan vehicle order, shipping, Mombasa port clearance, registration, financing, and final sale across a 4-month cycle required clear visibility into deployment stages, returns, and investment progress.

04 — CRB Integration

Real-Time Credit Bureau Screening

Integrating real-time CRB Africa credit checks into the loan approval workflow required standardised interpretation of credit ratings, blacklist flags, and credit history data within a process usable by non-technical loan officers.

05 — SACCO Governance

Savings Account & Target Tracking

Tracking member savings contributions, 50% vehicle value targets, membership eligibility, investment returns, and vehicle order qualification required SACCO-style account management within the finance platform.

06 — KRA Compliance

KRA Duty & Tax Documentation

Calculating KRA import duty, excise duty, VAT, and registration fees against CRSP-based vehicle valuations required automated duty estimation and quotation generation without manual KRA schedule lookups.

Solutions

Engineering Solutions Behind Maridady Motors Platform

We built the Maridady financial system using a hybrid architecture that combines rule-based, deterministic loan engines for repayments, CRB and KRA compliance logic, and data-driven modules for M-Pesa income analysis, SACCO accounting, and investor ROI tracking.

01
Unified Multi-Product Loan Management Engine System

Developed a polymorphic type loan architecture guiding all 5 finance models under a shared client profile while enabling product-specific rules, repayment logic & workflows with a single unified dashboard providing complete cross-portfolio visibility & control.

02
M-Pesa Statement Parser & Credit Profiling Engine

Built an automated ingestion setup parsing M-Pesa (PDF or CSV) statements into structured financial insights consisting of income patterns & consistency scores, thus enabling standard creditworthiness evaluation & reducing manual analysis for faster microfinance approval work process.

03
Vehicle Import Investment Pipeline Tracking System Platform

Developed a deal-stage pipeline tracker monitoring investor capital across Japan orders, shipping, Mombasa clearance, NTSA registration, financing, and vehicle sale with real-time dashboards, automated notifications, and return calculations showing 10% per-cycle returns and up to 30% annualised yields.

04
CRB Integration with Automated Credit Decision Support System

Incorporated CRB Africa API into the loan origination, offering structured credit reports with key indicators, enabling instant decision support, flagging high-risk applicants on an early basis & storing credit datasets for audit trails and also for future loan applications.

05
SACCO Member Management & Savings Progress Engine System

Developed a SACCO module managing member onboarding (KES 5,000 registration fee), savings account tracking, monthly contributions, eligibility timelines, and vehicle target progress, with automated triggers initiating procurement workflows at the 50% threshold and handling investment returns for non-borrowing members.

06
KRA Duty Estimation & Import Quotation Generation System

Designed a duty calculation module system utilising KRP CRSP data to estimated taxes per vehicle specifications, enabling instant, accurate insights related to consultations, with admin-controlled updates ensuring standard compliance without the need for system code changes.

UI/UX

Feels Native. Built for Real Lending Workflows

Automotive finance systems often fail with rigid interfaces. We mapped loan officer workflows, designing an intuitive platform aligned with M-Pesa usage to enable faster decisions, simplified input, and smoother borrower interactions across channels.

Process

Our Build Process for Maridady Motors

We followed the finance operations first process, with loan officer workflow mapping, sprint-based validation, spreadsheet replacement design & iterative builds aligned with real-world lending operations across all finance models.

Step 01

Finance Operations Mapping

5-week discovery sprint with Maridady loan team in Nairobi, documenting workflows across five finance products, M-Pesa analysis, CRM checks, and import tracking from Japan to NTSA. No features were built without manual equivalents.

Step 02

Data Architecture Design

Developed a polymorphic loan data model supporting five finance products under a unified client setup. Defined repayment logic system for SACCO, lay-by & asset finance structures with up upto 60-month schedules, reviewed & approved by finance leadership.

Step 03

Core System Build

Built a loan engine, a multi-product dashboard, CRB integration, M-Pesa parser, KRA calculator, SACCO module, & investor tracking pipeline system. Incorporated SMS & WhatsApp APIs for the repayment reminders across Kenya’s borrower channels.

Step 04

System Validation Testing

Conducted user acceptance testing with loan officers & accountants utilising real historical cases. Validated repayment schedules, CRB outputs, interest logic & M-Pesa income profiling against manual calculations prior to deployment.

Step 05

Data Migration Parallel Run

Migrated active loan portfolio from spreadsheets into the structured system. Conducted 6-week parallel operations with daily reconciliation, ensuring zero data loss & matching repayment prior to full transition from manual process.

Step 06

Deployment & Optimization

Completed cutover from manual systems & provided team training. Incorporated KRA governance & monitored performance, optimising CRB, M-Pesa parsing & repayment workflows through post-launch improvement cycles.

5-star
quote

We were running Kenya’s most sophisticated automotive finance model on spreadsheets and WhatsApp. Excellent Webworld didn’t just build us a system; they took the time to understand how each finance product actually works, how our loan officers think, and how our clients’ income realities differ from what banks expect. The result is a platform that our team adopted immediately, because it works exactly the way we do.
