About the Project & Business Goal
Camtrack is a West Yorkshire-based vehicle tracking & fleet management service provider, supplying Thatcham authorized GPS trackers, connected dashcam systems, & immobilisation systems that are trusted by both individual vehicle owners & commercial fleets. The business’s goal is to transform its hardware portfolio into a seamless connected fleet operations system that unifies tracking, compliance & customer onboarding. We engineered a real-time fleet telematics platform with 24/7 monitoring and a driver mobile app for digital walkaround checks & defect reporting, along with video telematics integration & an e-commerce storefront, creating 3 connected surfaces with one fleet management infrastructure system.

Ingesting Live GPS at Fleet Scale
Each tracked vehicle continuously streams position, speed & status data; thus, there is a need to have a platform that is able to ingest, process & surface this telemetry in real time across fleets without any issues.
Many Tracker & Camera Models, One Platform
As Camtrack provides multiple device types like S5 and S7 trackers, battery units, and connected dashcams, each has different protocols. There is a need for a device abstraction layer for support.
Digitising Mandated Driver Checks
UK commercial operators must perform daily workarounds checks & defects, which seems to be a legal duty as part of the operator’s license and needs a structured & robust compliant-based workflow.
Driver Checks Where There’s No Signal
Drivers do walk-around checks in depots, lay-bys, & rural locations with poor coverage. The app needs to have complete offline support, detecting photos & defects, and also requires reliable sync once connectivity is restored.
Connected Camera Footage at Scale
There are large volume of event-linked video datasets with the connected camera systems. Integrating video telematics needs efficient video retrievals, event-linked clips & storage without overwhelming the platform.
From Checkout to Live Tracking
Customers buying trackers need a clear path for live tracking. Connecting Shopify commerce, device provisioning & platform onboarding needs to have a unified customer journey, thus driving a seamless process.
How We Built It
Every decision has impactful outcomes that enable the fleet managers to observe & control their operations on real time basis, thus helping the drivers to complete their compliance workflows in minutes, thus allowing users to go from purchase to live tracking process.
We built a fleet management platform that actually ingests live GPS & telemetry through a high-throughput pipeline & renders it in real-time, along with continuous updates for position, speed, ignition, geofencing, & alerts, giving 24/7 control to the managers, entirely from one screen.
Developed a device abstraction layer that generally normalises protocols across S5 and S7 Thatcham trackers, battery-powered units, connected dashcams, & immobilisers, all into a unified telemetry system. New hardware can be easily added without any rebuild process.
We built the iOS & Android driver app to digitize vehicle checks, trailer checks, defect reports, accident reports, and roadside inspection reports. Established as an offline-first model, drivers can complete the auditable workflows with great photo capture & auto sync with connectivity signals.
Integrated defect & incident reporting directly into the fleet’s workflow system with 2-way messaging between driver & office. Defects that were raised during walkaround checks appear instantly for action, creating a live safety loop, keeping transparency & compliant.
Incorporated connected camera systems so that the event-linked footage is accessible along vehicle telemetry, offering context for incidents, harsh braking, & insurance claims. Also, built a remote tachograph download for retrieving driver & vehicle unit datasets.
We built a Shopify storefront for the Thatcham trackers, dashcam systems, immobilisers, & accessories with trade and retail pricing. Also, connected the post-purchase workflows to device provisioning & platform onboarding, driving a seamless journey.

How We Built Camtrack
We followed a telemetry-first approach, validating real time ingest pipeline & device abstraction layer prior to designing the interface. A fleet platform that lags or drops pings compromises operational visibility, thus building a resilient & high throughput data infrastructure, becoming the foundation of the ecosystem.
Discovery & Telemetry Architecture
We mapped device protocols, real data volumes, driver compliance workflow & UK regulatory requirements (Thatcham, tachograph, and DVSA checks). Designed the telemetry ingest pipeline system & device abstraction layer prior to interface development.
Ingest Pipeline & Edge Device Layer
Developed a high-throughput telemetry ingest pipeline, time series long layer & device abstraction layer that normalizes mixed hardware into a unified model. Load tested the architecture against fleet-scale telemetry prior to any live view exposure.
Fleet Platform & Live Operations Map
We built the fleet telematics with an integrated real-time map, route history, geofencing & reporting capabilities. Then, implemented a remote tachograph downloads & video telematics retrieved directly into the fleet manager dashboard system.
Driver App & Offline Safety Checks
Established React Native driver app with offline vehicle & traffic checks, defect analysis, accident reports, & road inspections. We also validated the complete workflow system submission through simulated connectivity loss scenarios to ensure better synchronization.
Shopify Store & Onboarding Link
We built the Shopify storefront with a hardware catalogue, VAT pricing for trade and retail, & connected post-purchase to device provisioning & platform onboarding for a seamless purchase to tracking experience for an overall better user experience.
Testing, Launch & Production Go-Live
Validated real-time platform under load, offline sync integrity, & also in compliance record accuracy. Established the driver app across mobile stores & launched the telematics platform & storefront with a continuous 24/7 monitoring aspect.
