Flutter 1.0

Flutter 1.0 is Finally Here & Developers are Awestruck

Developer’s latest crush: Flutter 1.0 is here

After 10 months of extensive beta testing and improvements Flutter 1.0 is finally here. Flutter 1.0 is the first stable release of Google’s UI toolkit for creating native experiences for both; iOS and Android from a single codebase. The love for Flutter among developers and entrepreneurs is evident by the thousands of Flutter apps that are already published to the Apple and Google Play stores even before version 1.0’s release.

A wide range of global customers including Alibaba, Capital One, Philips Hue, Reflectly, Groupon, Hamilton, JD.com, Abbey Road Studios, and Tencent are already developing or shipping apps with Flutter. So how is Flutter different from every other framework?

What’s new in Flutter 1.0?

  • Square (popular payment service) announced two new Flutter SDKs that make it easy to accept payments for goods and services with Flutter.

  • 2Dimensions announced the immediate availability of Flare, a remarkable new tool for designers to create vector animations that can be embedded directly into a Flutter app and manipulated with code.

  • Nevercode has created Codemagic SDK, which helps you select a GitHub repo with Flutter project and quickly create continuous build flows that run tests and generate binary app bundles that can be directly uploaded to various App markets.

  • You can write your app in Dart and in addition to compiling the date of ARM code with Hummingbird, an experimental web-based implementation of the Flutter runtime. You can also target JavaScript, enabling your Flutter code to run on the web.

  • Flutter includes the latest version of the Dart platform, 2.1, an update to Dart 2 that offers smaller code size, faster type checks, and better usability for type errors.

  • With Flutter, you can access everything from the underlying operating system, including code and UI written in native languages like Swift or Objective-C on iOS and Kotlin or Java on Android.

  • It’s compatible with best-in-class tooling for Visual Studio Code, Android Studio, IntelliJ.

  • Powered by the hardware-accelerated Skia 2D graphics engine that underpins Chrome and Android, Flutter gives the best output.

Flutter doesn’t replace Apple or Android App model, rather it’s an app engine that you can either embed into an existing app or use for an entirely new app. It enables Google’s open design system for digital experiences. Flutter can allow developers to think of features not in an ‘Android or iOS-first’ fashion, but rather a mobile-first model.

When asked about the future of Flutter, its makers responded, “The primary target for Flutter has so far been iOS and Android. Yet our ambitions for Flutter extend beyond mobile to a broader set of platforms. Indeed, from the outset Flutter was architected as a portable UI toolkit that is flexible enough to go wherever pixels are painted.”

Flutter is ready for you. What will you build?
